Sounds of Freedom – Support Georgia Compilation è una raccolta a sostegno della cultura dei club georgiani, profondamente colpita dalle recenti forme di repressione da parte del governo di Tbilisi.
Disponibile dal 7 febbraio 2025 su Bandcamp, include contributi di tantissimi artisti internazionali.
Tutti i proventi andranno direttamente ai club georgiani per supportarli nella ripresa e per continuare il loro ruolo essenziale nella promozione della connessione e della creatività.
La scena georgia è infatti attualmente soggetta a difficoltà socio-politiche ed economiche.
L’obiettivo è fornire risorse finanziarie ai club coinvolti, garantendo la continuità delle loro attività nel panorama della musica elettronica.
Tutte le tracce della compilation Sounds of Freedom saranno aggiunte progressivamente fino alla data di rilascio sulla piattaforma Bandcamp.
CONTRIBUTI TECNICI E STRUTTURA DELLA COMPILATION
Sounds Of Freedom uscirà per l’etichetta Different Sound di Tbilisi.
Tra gli ospiti troviamo nomi di spicco della scena elettronica internazionale come The Advent, Truncate, Raffaele Attanasio, Answer Code Request, Gary Beck, Steve Rachmad, Alexander Kowalski, Bas Mooy e Planetary Assault System.
Il mastering è stato curato da Paul Mac, il cui lavoro ha avuto un ruolo fondamentale nel definire la qualità sonora del progetto.
Il contributo fotografico è stato portato dalle splendide immagini curate da Dato Koridze.

CONTESTO SOCIO-POLITICO DI TBILISI
La Georgia sta affrontando una fase di instabilità politica ed economica, con proteste in corso dal mese di ottobre 2024.
Le manifestazioni si concentrano sulla richiesta di adesione all’Unione Europea e sulla ripetizione delle elezioni presidenziali, attualmente percepite come non rappresentative della volontà popolare.
Tutto ciò si riflette anche sulla vivissima scena culturale e musicale che ha come centro la capitale Tbilisi.
L’IMPATTO SULLA CLUB CULTURE
La repressione delle manifestazioni ha portato ad oltre 500 arresti e numerosi casi di violenza e torture documentate.
Evento importante dal punto di vista simbolico è stato la chiusura temporanea volontaria del Bassiani, club di riferimento della scena underground di Tbilisi, che ha deciso di sospendere le attività come atto di solidarietà nei confronti della protesta.
Non ultime ci sono state minacce sostanziali alla comunità LGBTQIA+ e alla libertà di espressione artistica.
INIZIATIVE DELLA SCENA MUSICALE
Un’ampia rete di artisti, DJ, etichette musicali, collettivi queer e altre realtà del settore stanno contribuendo attivamente alla resistenza culturale.
Un manifesto collettivo, pubblicato anche sui canali ufficiali del Bassiani, denuncia la repressione in corso e promuove i valori di giustizia, uguaglianza e democrazia.

ENGLISH VERSION
Sounds of Freedom – Support Georgia Compilation is a collection in support of the Georgian club culture, which has been deeply affected by recent forms of repression by the Tbilisi government.
Available from February 7, 2025, on Bandcamp, the compilation features contributions from numerous international artists.
All proceeds will go directly to Georgian clubs to support their recovery and help them continue their essential role in fostering connection and creativity.
The Georgian scene is currently facing socio-political and economic challenges. The goal is to provide financial resources to the clubs involved, ensuring the continuity of their activities within the electronic music landscape.
All tracks from the Sounds of Freedom compilation will be progressively added to the Bandcamp platform until the official release date.
TECHNICAL CONTRIBUTIONS AND COMPILATION STRUCTURE
Sounds of Freedom will be released by the Tbilisi-based label Different Sound.
The lineup includes prominent names from the international electronic music scene, such as The Advent, Truncate, Raffaele Attanasio, Answer Code Request, Gary Beck, Steve Rachmad, Alexander Kowalski, Bas Mooy, and Planetary Assault System.
Mastering has been handled by Paul Mac, whose work has been instrumental in defining the project’s sound quality.
The visual contribution features stunning imagery curated by photographer Dato Koridze.
SOCIO-POLITICAL CONTEXT IN TBILISI
Georgia is undergoing a phase of political and economic instability, with ongoing protests since October 2024.
The demonstrations focus on demands for European Union membership and the re-election of the president, as the current elections are perceived as unrepresentative of the people’s will.
This turmoil also affects the vibrant cultural and music scene centered in the capital, Tbilisi.
IMPACT ON CLUB CULTURE
The repression of protests has resulted in over 500 arrests and numerous documented cases of violence and torture.
A significant symbolic event was the temporary voluntary closure of Bassiani, Tbilisi’s leading underground club, which suspended its activities in solidarity with the protests.
Moreover, substantial threats have been directed at the LGBTQIA+ community and artistic freedom of expression.
INITIATIVES FROM THE MUSIC SCENE
A broad network of artists, DJs, record labels, queer collectives, and other industry players is actively contributing to cultural resistance.
A collective manifesto, also published on Bassiani’s official channels, denounces the ongoing repression and promotes the values of justice, equality, and democracy.
